I chose the song “Ya Henna” because I came across it on YouTube. This piece is an Egyptian Folk song that is connected to traditional henna celebration and is played at weddings for the celebration of the bride to symbolize beauty, fertility, and the joy of marriage. I chose this song because I liked the fast-paced beat and I also liked the story behind it. I especially enjoyed the repeated melody as well as the way the vocals and instruments work together to create such a lively sound with almost a dancing beat. There is use of wind instruments as well as various percussion sounds that keep the beat. The best part of this song was the fact I found a translated version and was able to understand what the female and male vocalists were singing.
