Song Title: La Molinera

Artist: Arany Zoltan

I chose this song because it was a bit different from our example from class. While our example from class was very upbeat, it was almost typical of what you would think of for Spanish music as in it the way the guitar was played reminded me of a man attempting to win over a woman, it sounded very passionate and it there was tapping that was very harsh, this folk song is a lot less “typical”. It is very calm and soothing, there is a guitar playing rather relaxed, something that is keeping a beat, perhaps a slapstick of sorts, and some drums. There is another instrument that joins in which after some research, I found out was a cello. La Molinera in English means “the mill”, and the way that the artist is singing is almost sad, or in remembrance of something. Perhaps some people have died at a mill, or there was once a lot of jobs at a mill that is no longer there, or a mill was torn down. I could not find the English translation of this song, but based on the tone of the artist, it is a bit of a somber song.
