For my song selection, I chose “The Loy Krathong Song,” composed in 1949 by Thai musician Eua Sunthornasanan with lyrics by poet Kaew Atchariyakul. This folk piece celebrates Thailand’s Loy Krathing festival, held under November’s full moon when the riverbacks overflow with water. Musically, it is a fast paced, joyful song designed to bring communities together in traditional circle dancing while honoring the spiritual renewal of the holiday. I discovered the recording while searching for “Thailand songs” on Google. I selected this piece because I love to be at a festival under the stars, surrounded by glowing floating lights and vibrant music.
