I chose the song “Sun Quan The Emperor” from China, which I found on YouTube. It shows a woman playing an instrument called the Guzheng, which reminded me of the Guqin that we talked about in class. The Guqin is a seven-string fretless zither that is plucked with the fingernail or flesh, and it uses free rhythm and tablature. The woman playing the Guzheng also plucked the strings with her fingernails, but the instrument had a lot more strings than the Guqin does. There was also someone playing a large drum. The song starts with just the drum, then at about 30 seconds the Guzheng joins in. The song starts off slower and then speeds up as it goes on. I really liked that the video actually showed them playing the instruments.
