The song I selected is from a 1966 album titled “West Meets East”, which is very interesting as it combines Western classical traditions with Indian classical traditions. The purpose of the song/album was primarily to bridge the two musical traditions together, and I found it very fascinating and enjoyable. The song utilizes Raga Melody, which has a slower opening (Alap), and it starts to ascend as the rhythm picks up and the tabla enters. Then, in harmony, both the Western instruments and Eastern instruments play quickly but harmoniously. Basically, it goes from slow to quick, in a progressive manner throughout the whole song, leading to the climax at the end.
