I chose the song “Raga Desh” by Amaan Ali Bangash, which is from the album Strings of Glory. This song caught my attention when I was looking on YouTube because we just talked about Hindustani raga music in class. It also has many of the characteristics of Hindustani raga that we talked about. It starts with a slow, dreamy introduction and then builds into a busier main section. There are no vocals, and there is a stringed instrument. It starts off with just the stringed instrument, which I believe is a sarod. About one minute in, the tabla, which is a pair of drums, joins in, and around two minutes in, the instruments start to speed up. I chose this song because it sounded interesting to me and had many of the characteristics that we talked about in class today.
