I picked this song because I really enjoy the rich feeling that Egyptian music presents. It is both suspenseful and calming. In this specific recording, the flute that is used to produce the melody is the Ney. It gives a little bit of a more windy, whistlely pitch than a normal flute would, with notes ranging a little bit lower in register. Halfway through this piece, a mandolin looking instrument takes over the melody. This gives a peaceful, yet powerful sound to the piece. The Ney flute also plays as a background sound during this section of the recording. After reading more of the prompt of the piece, I learned that this specific piece is based off of a poem. This is thought to be a traditional tune, respecting the ancient ethnicity of the Arabic Egyptian music.
