This week I chose the song Wizzy Ilabo by The Ofege Phenomenon, one of the most popular school boy bands of Nigeria. I chose this song because of the difference it had from the other rock music I listened to from the region. It has many similarities with western types of jazz as well as some of the rock music I listened to from Asia. I really like this song for how it sounds similar to other forms of rock and how it adds its own taste of the region into the instrumentals. The Ofege Phenomenon was formed in the 1970’s at St. Gregory’s College in Lagos, Africa. There is little available information about the group and the song Wizzy Ilabo. From the lyrics, the song seems to be about a person named Wizzy Ilabo and how they are mischievous and if smooth with the ladies. I highly recommend taking a listen!

Wizzy Ilabo by The Ofege Phenomenon
When Wizzy Ilabo Smiles
You know that something’s wrong
When you see him dancing around
You better find your way
When Wizzy turns his back
You know the weather is bad
When he walks out and bangs the door now
There’s gonna be a thunderstorm
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
When Wizzy Ilabo Smiles
Wizzy sees again
He keeps running around
When he lays his hands on her
You know that she is gone
I’m begging you now
Wizzy Ilabo
Never go near mine
Let me tell you Wizzy Ilabo
Never touch my baby
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
When Wizzy Ilabo smiles
When Wizzy turns his back
You know the weather is bad
When he walks out and bangs the door now
You’re gonna be a thunderstorm
We’re begging you
Wizzy Ilabo
Never go near mine
Let me tell you Wizzy Ilabo
Never touch my baby
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
Wizzy Ilabo
When Wizzy Laughs or smiles
Wizzy Ilabo smiles
Wizzy Ilabo smiles
(Fades)
