I chose Rule Brittania by James Thomson. This piece of music was actually created in 1740. It is recognized as the British Patriotic song, and a very recognizable piece of music once it gets into a couple of verses. It is like the stereotypical song that you hear as background music if like a British king or queen is shown, or some British soldiers appear. I chose this song because my Grandma is an immigrant from Britain, and when I think of her I think of this song. The instrumental part is well known, but I didn’t know that it had lyrics later in the piece.

The piece features several instruments, which I believe are a couple of trumpets a trombone, and possibly other brass aerophones. It plays loud music, in unison as all instruments play the same notes, except at the highest points, the trumpets may play extra. The song later features lyrics, which can be sung by anyone.
