I found this recording on youtube by searching “Southeastern asian music” the name of this one just caught my eye. Rasa Sayang in english means “loving feeling” this song is from Maluku, Indonesia its also super popular in Malaysia and Singapore. This folk song holds quite the controversy, in 2007 the Malaysian tourism board released a commercial using this song. The campaign was “Truly Asia”. Some Indonesians accused Malaysia of heritage theft, Malaysia then claimed that the song belongs to the Malay Archipelago, Malaysians and Indonesians alike. Indonesian media reported to have in possession  the oldest recording of the song which was in 1962.

Listening to the song you notice that there are multiple voices and they all seem to sound very childlike. I couldn’t figure out the instruments so I looked it up and it said that theres

  1. Kompang
  2. Gamelan
  3. Gendang
  4. Seruling
  5. Serunai
