I chose “Radhe Krishna Govinda” by Bhakti Marga Music. This bhajan was composed by Vinod Bihari Das Babaji. It is a type of kirtan, which is a devotion expressed through music. The song is performed by a female lead singer, who sings a phrase before the backup singers respond in harmony. This creates a call-and-response pattern throughout the song. There are also several instruments, including a traditional drum, dotara, flute, bells, cymbals, and other percussion instruments. The combination of the vocals, instruments, and repeated phrases creates a layered and rhythmic sound. The song eventually starts to speed up, finishing with a solo from the lead singer. I chose this song because I liked the combination of the vocals and the variety of instruments used in the recording. I also thought the devotional purpose was an interesting use of music.
