The song I have chosen is Dudu by Tarkan. Tarkan is a German born – Turkish singer who is very popular in Turkey. His songs have been featured in a lot of films in India. He is also one of the most popular European artists that never sang in English, which is quite impressive. This song specifically  is one of his most popular which was written 12 years ago. The song Dudu, which translates to sweet, seems to be a song he had written to get over a breakup. Which is odd, because of the upbeat melody you hear throughout the song. Without a translation, I thought he was positively professing his love to the woman. Instead, it was the opposite, with one of the verses:

I’m just pretending to smile, dont believe it’s real if you see
This heart has broken, all into ten thousand pieces
Every breath I take, every step I make
I wish she’d be here, my dearest would be by my side

The song goes onto say how the girl is as fresh as a flower with how unique and precious she is, how pure she is, like a mother’s milk. How sweet her speech is and how beautiful her eyes are. He then reminds himself that he has always had to keep his sorrow to himself, and that he needs to continue moving on. I picked this song because I think it’s sometimes amazing to realize people halfway across the world are experiencing similar emotions and attempt to portray those emotions in identical ways to that of our western world.
