I chose the song Down Under by Men at Work. There were many musical characteristics that I noticed throughout the song. Some examples of this are the song being polyphonic, having multiple different instruments being played throughout the song, the volume of the song staying the same until towards the end, where it gets quieter, and featuring multiple different male voices. Another thing I noticed was how the flute stops and starts throughout the song and isn’t consistently being played the whole time. I found the recording of this song on YouTube, but I was also able to find a recording of the song on Spotify. I have actually heard this song before being in this class. I thought it would be a great song that represents the Oceania region because the it is from Australia, which is included in this area. Another reason why I chose this song is that I found it to be super interesting to listen to and completely different from the type of music I generally enjoy.
