For this song share, I am sharing a Calypso piece titled “Calypso Blues” by The Brute Force Steel Band. When I was searching for a piece, I originally was looking for something very similar to what a western listener would expect when they hear the word “steel pan”. However, this piece captured my interest because it had a stark contrast from the rest of the album. The instrumentation is composed of a female vocalist, Mona Baptiste, and various pitched drums. The whole piece has a very reflective, and relaxed tempo. The text has the blues style “troubled lyrics” that was talked about in class.
