I searched for a recently released Thai pop song that I could relate to songs produced in the Western World. I found the artist, PALMY, before I found this specific song but she reminded me of performers like Olivia Rodrigo for instance. Her audience is definitely geared more towards pre-teen and teenage girls. On my first listen, I drew that this specific song was a sad song. The artist seemed to be longing for something; something was missing from her life. I looked up the lyrics and the meaning behind the lyrics. I found that the translation of “ขวัญเอยขวัญมา” is, “Kwun Oey Kwun Mah”. Upon further investigation I found that this saying is sort of a dying phrase in Thailand. Kwun is your spirit or courage that stay rooted at the top of your head. There are many modern slang phrases for Kwun, but essentially PALMY is looking for her courage and heart to return to her after a damaging, personal experience.
