The song I chose to select is Waltzing Matilda, originally written by Banjo Paterson. While not written by a native of Australia, it was written in a unique style of Australian music known as Bush Ballad. The song uses Australian slang and colloquialism extensively, and writes about a period in Australia’s history when figures like Ned Kelly were alive or recently deceased, and the Australian legal system was rife with corruption. The song itself has a very simple rhythm and rhyme scheme, and focuses on a narrative structure, much like the music we listened to in class, the center of the piece seems to be the vocals.
I found the song on YouTube and read about it from there; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqtttbbYfSM
