I selected a well known Egyptian song “Enta Omri”, which translates to “You Are My Life.” It was performed by the Umm Kulthum, often called “the Star of the East” or “El Sett”. The music was composed by Mohamed Abdel Wahab, and the lyrics were written by the poet Ahmad Shafiq Kamel.

This song is from the classical Arabic tradition of tarab, a style that shows deep emotional connection between performer and audience. It has a large orchestra that blends traditional Arabic instruments with Western elements such as electric guitar.

I chose “Enta Omri” because it stands as one of the most celebrated and enduring songs in Arabic music history. It represents the golden age of Egyptian classical song, and continues to move listeners across generations.
