I chose “Ruapra Long Sepha-Kiew Kao,” a harvest song from Thailand performed by musicians from the Fine Arts Department of Thailand. The song is a traditional Thai harvest song connected to agricultural life. The recording features several traditional Thai instruments, including the khong wong yai, ranat ek, an aerophone, and drums. The beginning of the song sounds more free-flowing and does not have a clear beat. About halfway through, the drums come in and create a stronger rhythm. Once the beat starts, the different instruments play together and create a much more complex and energetic sound. I chose this song because it gives a good example of the different instruments used in traditional Thai music, and I liked being able to hear how they come together throughout the song.
