I selected the evergreen Sindhi melody, Kohyari performed by Akbar Khamiso Khan. Akbar Khamiso Khan was born in Hyderabad, Pakistan in 1976. Throughout this piece, he plays the Alghoza. It is a traditional, and very important instrument from South Asia. It is a woodwind instrument constructed of two beak-shaped flutes that are connected. One side is used for the melody and the other is used for the drone. Akbar Khamiso Khan is one of the greatest Alghoza players of all time. Along side him, throughout this piece, he is accompanied by three other performers who all are playing different instruments. This piece is upbeat and highlights the Alghoza. Across the piece, the tempo changes. When Akbar is playing a solo, it tends to be slower than when his accomplices join in. I really enjoyed listening to this piece because of the Alghoza. It made me want to dance! Overall I chose this song because it is upbeat, fun to listen to, and I thought it was really cool that Akbar Khamiso Khan is one of the best Alghoza players in the world.
