I found this randomly scrolling youtbe for songs from the region and it sounded the best to me. The word Pukaea means trumpet or horn, and the songs name means a trumpet, hearlding a new time. The track is adapted from a Waiata which is a traditional Maori song or peotic chant. The primary purpose of Pukaea is to herald a new era, bridge cultural worlds, and preserve ancient indigenous knowledge. The song “Pukaea” was written and created by two primary minds, prominent Maori singer and advocate Dame Hinewehi Mohi and English musician and producer Jaz Coleman. Together, they formed the musical act Oceania. Dame Hinewehi Mohi is a highly respected New Zealand vocalist, television producer, and cultural advocate. She made history in 1999 when she sang the New Zealand national anthem in Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) at a Rugby World Cup match in London. The song sounds like a modern dance track blended with ancient tribal music. It takes a simple, thumping club beat and mixes it with haunting vocal chants and loud, dramatic horn blasts. I choose this song because I love the combination of everything in this song. The mix of tribal instruments and more modern make it sound really nice to the ear and it gives it a much more upbeat rhythm at least to me.
