The example I chose is called “ZITTI E BUONI” by the Italian rock band Måneskin. This piece first became popular when the band won the European song contest Eurovision back in 2021. I was a senior in high school and in choir class listening to all the songs (as if we were the judges because we couldn’t sing together due to Covid) from Eurovision when this one came on. I instantly became obsessed and got my sister hooked on Måneskin as well. We both have been pretty big fans ever since. I chose this piece because it is so different from the traditional Italian style of music and even though the entire song is in Italian, it still can be sung and enjoyed by those who don’t speak or understand Italian. The title of the song means “quiet and good” which centers around the point of what is being said in the song which is to not conform to the world but rather befriend other misfits and embrace your uniqueness. The pairing of Måneskin’s classic rock style, performance expression, and empowering lyrics connect this song to people from all aspects of life and make it enjoyable for anyone to listen to.

They also have many other songs both in Italian and English that I recommend as they are quite good as well. 🙂
