This is Ya pah-ka toh nay, Sa-oul – The Otter Catches Fish for Food with His Son from Antonio Querta and Emilio Martes. It’s on the album Palicour Indians of the Arucua River in Brazil, released in 1981.  This piece is purely vocal, with a male leader and a following chorus. It also sounds more like an example from South Africa, like the Mbube vocal choir. I think that this is an interesting comparison, as we learned that Brazil was the last country to abolish slavery, and that some of their music has a heavy African influence. I know that this isn’t a type of example that we listened to in class, however, I think that it’s important to see the influence of other cultures on our current area, aside from the main themes.
