The song that I chose is “Waterloo”. “Waterloo” was released by the Swedish pop group Abba on March 4th, 1974. “Waterloo” was first sung at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest in The Dome in Brighton, England on April 6th, 1974. “Waterloo” ended up winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, making it an overnight sensation. And still, to this day, “Waterloo” winning Eurovision makes it one of Abba’s most popular songs of all time. Also, “Waterloo” still remains one of the best songs ever performed at Eurovision. The song is about a woman who “surrenders” to a man and promises to always love him. The song also refers to Napoleon’s surrender at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The original title of the song was “Honey Pie”, heavily inspired by UK glam rock of the time, especially the song “See My Baby Jive” by the band Wizzard. I chose “Waterloo” because I am part Swedish and have always loved Abba. It is also because I love to watch the performances in Eurovision because they are always very good. The song seems to sound like a pretty upbeat song.
