This song is from MALIQ & D’Essentials, a band based out of Jakarta, Indonesia; they are a jazz and soul band who has become especially popular among the younger generations of Jakarta. Their increased popularity can be attributed to their appearance in the 2005 Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival. This is one of the largest jazz festivals worldwide and definitely the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere.

MALIQ is not a name of a member, but rather stands for “Music and Live Instrument Quality”. This was a concept coined by a few  members that eventually merged with the already existing band, D’Essentials. There are currently 6 members with a few others who only join on live performances. There have been some personnel changes over the years, however, they have still managed to release numerous albums.

The song “Untitled” is about a heartbroken man who is questioning whether or not he should still be pining after a girl that does not want him. I felt as though this paralleled the concept of a lot of Western love songs and think that it is a concept that is easily understood in all cultures. Even without knowing the lyrics, it is easy for the listener to pick out the emotions this song is putting out and possibly even relate.
