The song I have selected is representative of the folk dance/music known as Bhangra. Which can be primarily found in northwestern India and northeastern Pakistan. At the beginning of the song you can hear a basic drum beat with an electric guitar that sounds very American. Until the beat drops and the song changes completely. The band Delhi 2 Dublin uses instruments such as the dhol, flute, and tabla as its base of the song. But as the song progresses we get this Irish/Celtic string melodies at the finale that can some how tie two totally different cultural sounds together. Which further demonstrate they’re uniqueness as a band. Not only are parts of the song sung in English but the refrain is primarily sung in Punjabi, a language closely related to Hindi. Delhi 2 Dublin definitely took me by surprise but I enjoyed looking into their music and their journey of taking on the challenge of intermixing traditional Bhangra music with Celtic and Dub flavours. I hope you enjoy:)
