I came across The Tide Is High while looking on the internet, but I hadn’t realized that The Paragons were the original artists. The Paragons were a musical group that was formed in 1963 in Kingston, Jamaica. This group had a lot of success and released multiple songs that were considered hits and that were also covered by multiple other singers. I had always heard this song from Blondie, and I really enjoy that version of this song. I also listened to The Paragons’ original version, and I really enjoyed that as well. It is a song I enjoy because it is upbeat and catchy. In Blondie’s cover, there is a prominent trumpet throughout which I think really enhances it. In the original version by The Paragons, there seems to be some different instrumentation. I can hear what sounds like a violin or a stringed instrument and a defined beat.
