I chose this song by Taylor Swift because she is my favorite artist, but also because I think the message of the song represents the capitalistic society of the United States perfectly. Men are put on a pedestal and don’t need to work as hard as women to get status. This song holds a very strong message and is relatable as a woman going into the business world. Looking at the music specifically, there are a lot of electronic sounds since it is a modern pop song. The song is upbeat, yet has a simple texture because it is not extremely busy. The voice doesn’t produce a lot of range within this song. The song also has a lot of repetition in it. The song is also very loud dynamically until the bridge where it slows down a little bit, but crescendo occurs again right away. Overall, this is a common sounding pop-song, but this is what Taylor Swift is the best at. She writes common sounding pop songs, but has genius lyrics behind the song.
