The Boys Light Up By: Australian Crawl

Lukas Hutcheson

This song was created by an Australian band called Australian Crawl. The Boys Light Up was made on January 1st, 1980, and this song was made to entertain an audience. It is a rock song that contains different elements. Also, the lead singer stated that he enjoyed the writing process in music and enjoyed wherever the song would take him. I found this song on YouTube, and I chose it because I found it very catchy (something that I couldn’t get out of my head). I would listen to this type of song on a long car ride, and I will add this song to my playlist. The instruments within this song consist of 2 guitars, a bass guitar, drums, a cowbell, and a harmonica. There is a consistent upbeat rhythm with the electric guitar, bass, and drums that starts slow but then slowly gets faster throughout the song. The harmonica is used as a melody in certain parts of the song. Also, the song’s texture is polyphonic, which contains multiple instruments contributing to the rhythm. Finally, the vocals in the song are higher range.
Here’s the song.
