I chose this specific example for a number of reasons. The first being that we covered the song Korobeiniki in class briefly, and though this cover is more focused on the relevance of the song as the Tetris Theme, it’s traditional origin is acknowledged. The second of three reasons I chose this specific arrangement is the inclusion of several other folk melodies from Russia, such as the “Song of the Volga Boatmen” and “Kalinka,” as well as a traditional Klezmer melody in “Mayim, Mayim”. The third is simply that the arrangement goes hard and I really admire Charlie Rosen, the arranger and bandleader of the band in the video.
