I chose this song because we read about Rimpa Siva in class, and I wanted to learn more about her. She started playing the tabla at the age of five and is defying gender roles by playing the instrument. The song starts with her on the tabla and another person on a string instrument. She starts singing about ten seconds after they start playing. She is singing in a language that is not English and she only sings for a small part of the song. This song is fast paced. The string instrument is steady in the background. When playing the tabla she uses different parts of her hand and wrist to hit the instrument. Her hands move very quickly while playing yet she still is controlled. This song is about ten minutes long. This video was taken at the Saptak which is an annual music festival held in India during the winter.
