“Spring River Flower Moon Night” is a beautiful song I found on Youtube that involves the Guzheng (a Chinese Zither). The song starts out as a slow, dreamy aura yet involves a twangy, trill for ornamentation. It’s really impressive to watch the player’s hand flow up and down the instrument, reminding me of a piano or harp. As the song progresses, it has moments where it picks up and then pauses and reminds me of something I could meditate to. If you speed ahead to the 4:55 mark, it starts to get more chaotic and adds chords rather than single notes which is really pretty. Honestly, this was the first song that appeared when I looked up “Guzheng” because that was my favorite instrument I heard from China. As you speed up to 6:14 in the video, it sounds really Western-like… almost like a banjo. It made my fingers hurt watching how fast the player was plucking! The nature of this piece really reflects the song title; I can imagine a calm, warm river lightly rushing in the moonlight.
