This gamelan is a performance from a Ted Talk event.

A gamelan is defined as a traditional instrumental ensemble of Indonesia, typically including many bronze percussion instruments. Towards the end of the video, you can see one of the performers is playing on a bamboo aerophone, or a flute/recorder. Gamelan ensembles are generally conducted by the drummer sitting in the middle. It’s also important to note that instruments are usually made in groups so that instruments from one group can’t necessarily be used in a different gamelan ensemble. This is due to the tuning of each instrument. Gamelans are typically performed in the context of shadow puppet theatre, entertainment for social events, or celebrating important life events. Something that is essential to the sound of gamelan music is the melodic phrases marked off by the sound of a gong. You can see that at the end of the video a gong is rang to show that the piece has ended. Another important detail of a gamelan is the music is full of busy texture, but also repeats.
