This song is part of a performance called Sonic Soul performed by Rasaki Aladokun on the talking drum and Carlos Pride on the gankogui. The performance was at the Percussion Fest Der Kontinente in Berlin Germany. Their group is called King Sunny Ade and his African Beats. He played with King Sunny Ade for more than 20 years and recorded over 50 albums with that group, and has performed with famous musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Olatun. He is best known for his performances on the talking drum, but also plays the Djembe, congas, and composes his own music. His efforts and performances have helped to conserve the authentic African sound, and to spread knowledge and enjoyment of the music. In the performance I listened to, there was a constant beat on the gankogui with solo parts by the talking drum, along with some chant-like vocals. The form and style reminded me of a jazz song because to me it looked like he was communicating with his band on when to keep going, when he would solo, and when they would come in on vocals as if it was improvised and not planned out beforehand.
