“Shosholoza” is said to be a traditional South African folk song that originated among Ndebele migrant workers traveling by train from Zimbabwe to work in South Africa’s mines. They also say that the song’s Zulu lyrics evoke the image of a steam train moving forward, symbolizing resilience, unity, and the power of collective effort. Furthermore I found that Shosholoza became an anthem during South Africa’s struggle against apartheid, sung by those seeking strength and solidarity. I found this song interesting for it’s correlation to sports as it is said that it’s sung in sports stadiums, political rallies, and community gatherings, remaining a powerful symbol of unity and hope. Which is cool because the other day I was wondering how music for sports events differed from culture to culture. Which I the song share gave me a perfect opportunity to research that.
