This song is from my favorite Broadway musical, The Lion King. It was written by Lebo M. for the character Nala as she leaves the Pridelands to find help. This song was specifically written for the Broadway musical, and as Lebo M. grew up in South Africa during apartheid, he wrote this song as a tribute to his own experiences during that period, and thus the song is imbued with themes of refugeeism and survival.
