“Rawhide” is a Western song written to be the theme song for the CBS television program Rawhide. Rawhide was an American Western television series that ran from 1959 until 1966 with each episode beginning with this iconic theme song.

The song itself was written in 1958 by Ned Washington and Dimitri Tiomkin. Washington wrote the lyrics while Tiomkin did the composition. The original recording was performed by Frankie Laine, and this is the version that accompanied the television program.

I chose this song because I enjoy Western media, especially Western music, and this is one of the most recent Western songs I have discovered. I also think Western music is a very important genre of music to study when exploring the musical culture of the United States.
