When we began to listen to Prabhujee in class I was automatically intrigued. I have been obsessed with The Beatles since I have been 10 years old and George Harrison has always been my favorite by far. I knew about Harrisons collaborations and interests in traditional Indian music but I was set on using this song share as an opportunity to listen more closely. I did more research and, just as in my predication, found that Harrison did sing vocals in Prabhujee. In the video that I have attached to this song share, specifically in the beginning, the performance shows which artist is doing each thing we are hearing. It made me realize how Shankar not only influenced Harrison but Harrison also influenced Shankar. It still sounds like a traditional chant but you can hear multiple voices singing which is not as common in Indian music, especially with harmony and multiple vocal parts being introduced. An acoustic guitar is also a part of the song; however, the beautiful color and style still showcases the musics heritage. Shankar and Harrison equally shared the spotlight when it came to this song; in fact, Harrison is titled as the producer and the Artist of the album is Shankar, and rightfully so. This song shows the beautiful connections between culture. As I stated above, I have always loved George Harrison, but now I have another reason to be amazed by him.
