This week I chose to study “Piano Man” by Billy Joel. This song is a classic, and whenever or wherever it comes on, everybody is singing along.
This song is considered “rock” but I’m not sure what genre I would put this in. I almost wanted to say it would be bluegrass or a slow country song, but my research is finding that this song is noted as rock!
Coming out in 1973, this song gave the people of the time a new style to enjoy – something that hadn’t really been heard before. The style of piano was not super common at this time, and his craziness on the piano really left an impact on the people. I really like this song because it can either be relaxing and slow to enjoy, or you can have a beer in hand and sing along next to your best friends. This song has been cherished for the last 40 years because of its classic feel it’s always kept.
