The song I selected is ‘Permission to Dance’ by BTS. BTS is an extremely famous K-Pop boy band who is currently on a hiatus. I chose this song and this type of music because it is a very widely known genre in current popular music. K-Pop is Korean pop music and it showcases a lot of Western influence while still incorporating influences from Korea. The melody of the song is similar to other music that you would see on the top of the charts in America or other westernized places. In the song, they even make references to popular Western musical icons such as Elton John, which is useful when helping the majority of people relate to the music or song itself, even if they have never heard a song from a K-Pop group before. The tempo is very upbeat and the message is positive as it indicates that nobody should “need permission to dance”, have fun, or even be themselves.
