The song I chose was Pelo Telefone, which translates to on the telephone. The song is by artist Martinho da Vila and was released in 1973. The genre of this song is Samba, and is a good representation of Samba music before the modernization dance most people are familiar with in today’s society. I chose this song as an example because it has a very upbeat and happy sense, it makes you want to dance like much of Samba music. In the song, the instruments have a polyrhythmic sense, and I really like the repetition of the melody throughout the song. In the 1920s, “Pelo Telefone” was the first samba-canção ever recorded, and the version I linked is a recreation of the 1920s recording. I linked the song below.
