My song is called “Only A Fool”, by Mighty Sparrow.  Mighty Sparrow is a singer from Grand Roy, Grenada in the Caribbean.  His music mostly fits in the Calypso genre and his popularity in the genre earned him the title of “Calypso King of the World”.  This song was released in 1969 and is off his album Sparrow meets the Dragon.  This song features the band Bryon Lee and the Dragonaires which is a band who primarily plays ska and calypso.  The song itself has a slower pace and the primary focus heard in the piece is Sparrow’s own voice.  The instruments included, drums, guitar, and bass, are all pretty quiet to put more emphasis on the vocals and sad lyrics of the song.  I found this song by looking at some of the most famous musicians to come out of the Caribbean and Mighty Sparrow came up in search.  This song was particularly interesting to me because it is a lot slower and more serious than some of his other more peppy songs that I listened to.  It also does not have a lot of calypso sounding elements to it so it seems to be a little out of genre for the artist.
