This song comes from the 2009 movie reboot of the Star Trek Original Series. I have always liked watching the behind the scenes extra footage included on the DVDs, and I recall when this one came out, there was some footage and discussion on the music of the film. One clip that stuck with me is how they were trying to figure out how to create music for the different alien species. The Vulcan race was the predominate one with a bit of their neighbors the Romulans. So with the Vulcan race, they chose the erhu as the designated “Vulcan” instrument. As a result, you hear the erhu frequently through out the film. This song is just one blurb of it.
