I chose the song Mundian To Bach Ke, by Rajinder Singh Rai, known by the stage name Panjabi MC, and a bhangra vocalist, songwriter, and Punjabi artist Labh Janjua. The title “Mundian To Bach Ke” is also known as “Beware of the Boys” or “Beware.” The genre is Bhangra alternative hip hop which was originally released in 1997 and then re-released as a single in 2002. I chose the song Mundian To Bach Ke because of its popularity not only within South Asia but globally as well, especially as I have heard the song numerous times. The song has been featured in countless movies, tv shows, tours, etc. since its release. Mundian To Bach Ke is a worldwide success; it is one of the best-selling singles of all time globally and has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. I also found it intriguing the mixtures of styles within Mundian To Bach Ke, including traditional Punjabi instruments like the Tumni and Dhol, and the Punjabi language with western rap-like vocals. There was even a remix release featuring Jay-Z in 2003, which reached high success mainly in Australia and North America.
