When I began my research, I knew immediately that I wanted to include some kind of Indian Raga for my Song Share. My mind immediately went to Ravi Shankar, after Dr. Waroff had mentioned him in class and she showed us a video of his daughter. Thus, my search began. One simple YouTube search was all it took to find “Morning Raga,” created by Ravi Shankar. It follows the standard Raga formula; a dreamy aura in the beginning through the middle largely created by the Sitar played by Shankar. It then speeds up and jumps to a lively piece of chordophone and idiophone harmony. I believe that Morning Raga is a perfect symbol of the early morning. As the sun begins to bathe the world in its light, people begin to wake up from their dreams and prepare for the busy days ahead of them. The sun, in its full glory, restores the energy and light to the world, signaling a new life after the dead of night. For those who love the sense of floating as I do, I highly recommend this Raga, and I hope that it is able to fully capture your heart as it has already captured mine.
