Song Title: La Cumparsita

Composed by: Gerardo Matos Rodriguez

I chose La Cumparsita (which stands for “Little Street Profession”/”The Little Parade”) because it is known as “Tango’s Most Famous Song”.  It is an extremely popular song, and now has over 2,700 versions world-wide. There are very distinctive features of Tango music that can be heard in it. The violin is extremely prominent in this song, as well as the accordion. The syncopated rhythm is also present in this song, as well as flutes. It also sounds like there is a piano playing in the background as well, however the flutes and the violin are the key components of the melody. The many instruments that make up this song, are what are make this an ensemble, which is typical of Tango music.
