The song that I chose for my Song share assignment is Kunai Dumdum. The title of this song directly translates to Black Kunai, a traditional Japanese throwing knife. This song is written by Blasius To Una. Born on February 2, 1925 Papua New Guinea, he would be recognised as the first artist from Papua New Guinea to be nationally recognised for his work. The main goal of this piece is to tell a story. While there are no available direct English translations of the lyrics, the artist does very well to convey emotions with his tone and cadence. Throughout the song Blasius To Una stops singing all together and tells his story. After telling a fragment of his tale he will continue singing. Blasius To Una has such a soothing friendly voice you get a sense of true passion for his story. The song feels as if your own grandfather was sitting you down to tell you his favorite story. The main and seemingly only instrument he uses is a guitar. Overall I really enjoyed this song and I feel that I will continue to listen to the genre of music in the future.
