“The Troubles” was a period of Northern Irish history in which Unionist/Loyalists who wanted to stay in the United Kingdom where in conflict with Republican/Nationalists who wanted Northern Ireland to be brought back into the fold of all of Ireland. The bombings and fighting that took place would call for the Crown to send in soldiers to help secure Northern Ireland, which to the Republican/Nationalists viewed as an invasion (as they all of Ireland as a unified Ireland) so they engaged in one of the most ancient of Irish traditions.
