Nomcebo Zikode is a singer and songwriter from South Africa. She released her song, “Jerusalema,” amidst the Covid pandemic which she was nervous to do. As a background singer, it was a big risk for her to take this leap of faith and record/release her own song. Additionally, Nomcebo mentioned the lyrics describe her feelings about asking God to answer her prayers for success. Jerusalema has become a global hit, reaching the top five on music charts in Belgium, France, Hungary, Netherlands and Switzerland while reaching number 4 on Billboard’s world digital song sales chart. The hit song is spoken in the South African language of Zulu.

Nomcebo shows off her low range throughout the song. The background instruments sound like they mostly consist of percussion (drum and shakers) and an occasional human mimicking the sound of a drum and synthesizer to create a pop blend. The song is very repetitive in regards to both voice and instrumentation. The music video displays children smiling in the sun with the featured singers. This upbeat tune is great for dancing and singing along to, especially if the audience knows how to speak in Zulu!
