The song that I decided to focus on in a Caribbean theme is the song Jamaica Mistaica by Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffett is not necessarily known as a reggae artist like someone like Bob Marley, for example, but this song has a lot of reggae elements, and I am a very big Jimmy Buffett fan. I feel like this song is very laid back. There is a soothing voice by Jimmy Buffett with a lot of background instrumentation, including a lot of steel pan, drums, stringed instruments, and some occasional keyboard. The song, for the most part, has a steady beat and melody. I would say the lyrics to the song are witty and comical, which is pretty typical for Buffett. I think it is interesting how much this song sounds like reggae, especially with his other songs in his catalog being more “beach music”.  The range overall of the instruments is up and down very fast, but it is overall a pretty calming song, which I enjoyed.
