The song I picked for this week is Ikaw Lang. Which is a popular song in the Philippines. The song Ikaw Lang, which translates to Only You, was recorded by the Filipino band, Nobita. This song can be described as Indie-rock and a modern kundiman ballad. The purpose of this song is to capture the expression and emotion when someone finally finds their one true love. I picked this song because I thought that not only do the voices tell a story but the instruments do too as they change throughout the song. A part of the song that stands out to me the most is early on when there’s a complete pause in singing and instrumentals. The song starts slow but after the pause, the song picks up a bit before becoming a little more calm again. With random parts throughout the whole thing that are louder as well, including breaks of the vocals completely.
